Fear is a habit, so is self-pity, defeat, procrastination, despair, hopelessness and resignation. You can eliminate all of these negative habits with two simple resolves, "I can, and I will!"
The things that scare us can be the exact things we need to be doing. Fear can work like a compass, because it shows us where we can exit our comfort zones. We may not enjoy being uncomfortable, but that is the only place where growth exists. Sometimes we are thrusted out of our comfort zone without our consent, and other times we may take the adventure by choice. Either way, it is not something we should loathe. It is an opportunity to grow, learn, and live life on a whole new level. Do not let fears choose your destiny. Do not let fears choose your destination.
A companion of fear is often procrastination (some mark it as laziness). Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the 'someday I'll' philosophy. What sometimes follows procrastination? Regret.
I replay moments of my past, and beat myself up for the mistakes I've made. Sometimes, I even catch myself wondering what could have been, had I did something else or said something differently. Then I snap out of it, return to the present, and realize that all of that dwelling is doing me very little good. If you're reading this, you're still alive. If you are still alive, then your story has yet to fully play out.
Do not regret your yesterdays, as they've helped build the champion you are today, and amazing person you're continually becoming for tomorrow. Mistakes are not the enemy, they are our teachers. Do not be afraid to make more moving forward. Failure isn't the opposite of success, it's part of the process. We become great at the things we practice, and it's comforting only to lazy people the idea that others are "born with it". Even people born with natural abilities have to devote their lives to crafting their skills. No one is perfect out of the box. Sometimes I wish it were the case. But then, I'd miss out on the journey, and only enjoy the destination. Improvement comes through struggle and practice so do not be afraid of those things. Great results require great effort, not great excuses. Now get to work.
If you're scared of taking chances, you'll never know the answers. Too many of us are not living our dreams, we are living our fears. Fear has a weird way of dominating lives. Yet, there are four ways you can handle fear. You can go over it, under it, or around it. But if you are ever to put fear behind you, you must walk straight through it. Once you put fear behind you. Leave it there.
Fear interrupts your peace, and anything that costs you your peace is too expensive.
